An appraisal is a conversation that takes place between a leader or a manager and their team member where the team members performance is reviewed and goals, targets and objectives set for the next appraisal period. The meeting takes place anywhere from one a month to once a year, depending on the companies individual process.
It’s perception. For many, appraisals are just something we ‘have to do’. They can easily become a tick box exercise, rather than a process that drives performance and motivation. If done well, appraisals should be seen to be a very positive process.
